Co-Principal Investigators, Drs. Nancy Waltman and Laura Bilek, recently completed the Heartland Osteoporosis Research Study (HOPS), a multi-year randomized controlled trial funded by the NINR-NIH. This study compared the effect of exercise and a medication called risedronate, used for treatment of osteoporosis, on bone structure and bone density outcomes. The seminar will highlight results of this randomized controlled trial. Dr. Waltman is a nurse researcher with a long history of investigating best practices for maintaining women’s bone health across the lifespan. Dr. Bilek’s research focuses on the role of exercise in healthy aging. Their presentation will discuss bone structure, bone density, and body composition through the results of their HOPS study.
