Presentation Title: Personalizing the risk and benefit of PARP inhibitor therapy
Objectives:
- Highlight the impact of PARP inhibitors in ovarian cancer therapy.
- Review common molecular causes of homologous recombination deficiency in cancers
- Identify biomarkers in use and development for predicting PARP inhibitor benefit
- Understand magnitude and influencers of risk including clonal hematopoiesis for secondary myeloid malignancies in survivors of solid tumors.
Research Summary
Dr. Swisher leads innovative research in the molecular genetics of ovarian cancer with emphasis on improving prevention and therapeutics, including development of PARP inhibitors and understanding the BRCA-Fanconi anemia pathway. As Medical director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Prevention Program at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Co-Leader of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research Program, she serves as principal investigator on several PARP inhibitor therapeutic trials and leads translational research for numerous clinical trials. Her research, funded by NIH, Department of Defense, and Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, focuses on translating scientific findings to patients through innovative clinical trials and improving access to genetic testing to reduce deaths from hereditary ovarian cancer.
