Due to reduced availability of the 1870+ model of N95 respirators, colleagues who are only fitted to use that model should sign up for an upcoming fit testing appointment, which will be held between Monday, Nov. 2 through Nov. 13. Sign up will be available in Apollo this week.

If you have been fitted to either the 1870, 1860 or 1860S respirator in the past, you may use that size in place of the 1870+ without additional fit testing. If after donning the 1870, 1860 or 1860S mask, you have concerns about the fit of the mask, you can be re-fitted through fit testing to ensure a proper size mask.

The fit testing will occur during these dates at the following locations:

  • Monday, Nov. 2, Village Pointe, conference room in Building 111 on level two, room #20801
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3 through Friday Nov. 13, Nebraska Medical Center, Learning Resource Center 1, basement level of Storz Pavilion

Follow these steps to sign up for a fit test:

1) Sign up in Apollo for your appointment: Login to Apollo, select “Search for Trainings” (on the left-hand side) and type “fit testing”

2) Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. If you are late, you may be asked to reschedule

3) Fill out and sign the Respiratory Protection Medical Form. This form is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirement for all employees whose job description indicates a potential for exposure to airborne and/or aerosolized diseases.

4) Fill out and sign the Consent for Treatment Form and bring it to your appointment. For UNMC Employees only, in addition to Consent to Treatment and Respiratory Protection Medical Form, fill and sign the following forms, and bring it to your appointment

Other important information:

  • Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment
  • Avoid eating anything sweet, sour or bitter 30 minutes before appointment time as it can affect the test
  • Staff must complete the questionnaire, consent and other applicable forms prior to arriving
  • Males must be clean shaven. If there is facial hair, the mask will not be able to get a good seal and the fit test will not be passed
  • Women who are pregnant CAN be fit tested with the vendor since fit testing will be qualitative
  • Upon completion of their fit test, employees will receive a fit testing completion form and sticker for their badge, which will have their mask size and date of their fit test
  • Carmelita Alvares
