UNMC will kick off this season’s Breakthrough Thinking Conference Series Dec. 5, with an online presentation focused on the potential and peril of generative AI in education.

The annual series, open to all UNMC faculty, staff and students, is designed to challenge and inspire out-of-the-box thinking.

Attendees will hear Maria Langworthy, PhD, cofounder and managing partner of CampusEvolve, present “The Potential and Peril of Generative AI in Education: exploring use cases that accelerate human learning and well-being.” The online event will run from noon to 1 p.m.

Dr. Langworthy will be joined by UNMC's Dele Davies, MD, Emily Glenn and Rachel Lookadoo, JD, for a discussion on how UNMC is approaching generative AI.

Dr. Langworthy is a global education thought leader who works at the intersection of analytics, AI research and product development to accelerate the evolution of education. Prior to founding CampusEvolve, she was the director of worldwide education research at Microsoft, where she led the open education analytics community. She also served as the strategic data officer for education at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She holds a PhD in political sociology and a master’s degree in international relations, both from Boston University.
