Dr. Carlson is a University of Wisconsin School of Medicine graduate. He completed his graduate medical education at Northwestern University McGraw Medical Center which included Internal Medicine Residency, also serving as Chief Resident, along with a fellowship in gastroenterology and heapatology and a T-32 Research Fellowship in Esophageal Physiology.
He speaks nationally on the topic of esophageal disorders and is currently an editorial board member of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has been published in over 100 scholarly articles and is currently principle investigator on an R01-funded project aimed at utilizing novel approaches to improve understanding of the relationships of the esophageal wall states with esophageal physiology.

- Describe the clinical presentation and diagnostic approaches for achalasia.
- Identify achalasia as a progressive disease with effective treatment options.
