Target Audience:

This accredited continuing education activity is designed for Behavioral Health providers to include psychologists, advanced practice nurses, nurses, licensed mental health therapists, and social workers.

Educational Objectives:

At the conclusion of this live activity, the participants should be better able to:

Identify those at greater risk and how individuals attempt to reduce shame through both adaptive and maladaptive responses.
Discuss models such as the compass of shame and attunement concepts that illustrate how the judgment behind shame becomes a form of self-inflicted trauma.
Examine best practices, including trauma-informed and resiliency-based strategies, that can help clients develop the intrapersonal acceptance needed to lessen the impact of shame.

Dr. Jeff Peterson, PhD, LIMHP, LPC, NCC, PCC is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Counselor, a National Board-Certified Counselor, an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and an assistant professor in the School of Education and Counseling at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. Prior to this he taught at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri; and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

In support of improving patient care, University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
