VA Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System Friday Research Seminar "Lipid Droplets - Cellular Mediators of Metabolic Signaling"
About this Event
Dr. Micah Schott is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a member of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. He joined UNMC in 2021 after completing postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic in the laboratory of Dr. Mark McNiven, where he studied the cellular mechanisms that regulate lipid droplet breakdown through lipolysis and lipophagy. Dr. Schott received his PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology from the University of North Dakota. His research program focuses on how lipid droplets function as dynamic platforms for metabolic signaling and membrane trafficking, with particular emphasis on liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. His work integrates cell biology, metabolism, and trafficking pathways to understand how lipid droplet turnover contributes to metabolic dysfunction and cancer. Dr. Schott has received multiple NIH awards, including a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award and currently serves as PI of an NIGMS R35 MIRA award supporting studies on endosomal trafficking mechanisms that regulate lipid droplet catabolism. His work has been published in journals including Journal of Cell Biology, PNAS, Journal of Cell Science, Hepatology Communications, and Journal of Biological Chemistry, and he is an active reviewer for numerous journals and NIH study sections.
