While research has shown that lectures are an ineffective way to learn, they remain a significant part of instructional hours at most health sciences schools. However, curriculum can be developed using the science of learning, and unconventional teaching methods may be the missing element for learning to “stick.” Despite the evidence for moving away from lectures, the hurdles are challenging to overcome and must be a shared vision from leadership in order to be successful.
