Effective Writing Strategies: The Nine Parts of Speech in Six Weeks

The Office of Postdoctoral Education and Dr. Adrian Koesters, Research Editor, Grants Resources, VCR  present:   Effective Writing Strategies: The Nine Parts of Speech in Six Weeks
English grammar consists of “nine parts” that we use every day in speaking and writing. Understanding how these work, and how they differ from languages that have more or fewer parts of speech (or achieve meanings in ways different from English) is a valuable and “immediately translatable” communications skill.

  • This practical course is designed primarily for post-doctoral researchers who wish to improve their basic writing skills.
  • Methods learned in this non-credit seminar course can be directly applied to grant narratives and journals articles.
  • Each session will include instruction on a given writing topic, in-session writing practice, and time to ask about specific issues or examples of writing problems that have come up in your own work.

Requirements: Pre-registration is required, and will be available via REDCap at https://unmcredcap.unmc.edu/redcap/surveys/?s=WHCTRL398H

All participants must attend the first session, or will not be able to continue in the seminar. If you know that you cannot attend the first session, please wait until a future class.

Participants must also commit to attending any five of the six total sessions (including the first session) to receive certification of completion. (No continuing education hours for this seminar.)
