She received her MD and MA in Bioethics from Emory University and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. During her residency, she served as a Schweitzer Scholar with a focus on developing health literacy education for older adults. She is also a recipient of Baylor's Distinguished Resident Educator award. She has published on the implications of HIPAA on social relationships in assisted living communities, as well as the impact of "turfing" or avoidance of clinical responsibility on medically complex patients. She has also worked with the Task Force for Global Health to examine and address ethical challenges faced by healthcare workers internationally. Her current research is focused on moral distress and moral injury in healthcare workers and trainees. Objectives: 1. Understand the history of moral distress as a concept, beginning with its roots in clinical medicine and expanding to applications in public health. 2. Address the role of the Covid pandemic and issues surrounding resource limitations, visitor access, and staff risk in broadening the discussion around moral distress. 3. Explore the concept of dual loyalties and the experience of moral distress within the context of public health and policy engagement.
