Olson Center for Women’s Health, in conjunction with Nebraska Medicine Cardiovascular Services, will address heart health for women in their upcoming 3-part virtual lecture series.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death or women in the US and can affect women at any age. The Olson Center will co-host a series, “Let’s Talk About Heart Health in Women” with Nebraska Medicine Cardiovascular Services to bring attention this health issue. Each session will be provided virtually, and meeting links will be emailed to registrants prior to each event.

Lecture 1: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in Women and Stress Testing with Neha Goyal, MD

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Recognition of signs and symptoms is important.

Lecture 2: Heart Failure and Women with Christina Dunbar Matos DO, MS, MPH

Monday, Feb. 12, 12:30 p.m.

Heart Failure is a disease that impacts both men and women.  This session will describe how to recognize risk factors for heart failure, as well as the warning signs and treatment options that are essential in controlling it.

This lecture is free, however if you would like to obtain nursing credit, the cost is $15. Payment instructions will be given when you pre-register. Nursing credit can only be obtained for watching the live stream of the virtual presentation, not for viewing the recording after the event.

Lecture 3: Atrial Fibrillation: Understanding the Mechanisms and Treatment Options with Niyada Naksuk, MD

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia, affecting over 2.5 million Americans, and is associated with increased mortality. Despite advances in catheter ablation, atrial arrhythmia recurrence remains a persistent challenge. Compared to men, women have higher rates of adverse outcomes, including procedure-related complications, increased risk of cardiovascular admissions and stroke, as well as arrhythmia recurrence after catheter ablation.
